Finite element model updating using computational intelligence - based methods: A Case study of the San Roque Valley bridge, California

چکیده :
Abstract— In recent years, updating finite element (FE) models has become an effective tool for reducing uncertainties and improving the accuracy of structural numerical models. In this study, a reinforced concrete bridge was selected as a case study, and its FE model was analyzed using OpenSees software and field-measured vibration data. To perform the updating process, computational intelligence (CI) methods and genetic metaheuristic algorithms were used to minimize the difference between the numerical responses and the measured natural frequencies. The results indicate that the genetic algorithm (GA), through its intelligent search operators, can modify essential model parameters, such as the elastic modulus of the deck and piers, as well as the abutment stiffness, enabling the numerical model to accurately replicate the bridge's dynamic behavior. The updated model can then be used to predict the structure's response under different loading conditions and for future seismic analysis, both of which play an important role in the management and maintenance of bridges.
